Broadband Internet Status for pure-fibre FTTP
For Codrington as per most of South Gloucestershire there is no central plan or organisation for the broadband Internet infrastructure. It is an ad-hoc system with a few companies implementing what they will. The main operator is BT/Openreach and the council has funded them with BDUK (central government) and other money to extend their superfast network (FTTC). Thankfully Codrington is being upgraded using ultrafast pure-fibre FTTP technology which is ideal for rural areas particularly. The councils extended phase 2 and phase 3 Openreach updates should update many rural properties with FTTP. Unfortunately it is difficult to find out if your property is likely to upgraded and when it will be.
The main way to check the status of Broadband Internet Provision by Openreach is to use their "When can I get fibre?" checker. This is accessible from:
https://www.homeandbusiness.openreach.co.uk/fibre-broadband/when-can-i-get-fibre
You can enter your telephone line number or your postcode followed by your addresses and it will show the status of your premises (generally!).
If you are expected to received a pure-fibre FTTP service then the checker will show a page like:
Openreach don't currently track the provision of an FTTP service (2017-11-23) so it will look like this if you are expected to get an FTTP service until the actual work in installing the fibre to the area and to your local access point (telegraph pole or manhole) is complete (could be 3 -12 months). Once the actual FTTP infrastructure installation work is complete (often carried out by an Openreach contractor) you will see the checker website change to:
Now this is a little confusing as it says "Superfast accepting Orders", but the small print says its not ready yet, This seems to mean that Openreach have not commissioned the line yet, This means they haven't done the "paper work" or entered the fact that your line is ready into their databases. This takes about 10 days. Once they have done this you will see the following display:
Congratulations you are ready to order the FTTP Internet service and move into the future! If it shows the technology as FTTC, well it may be better than ADSL/nothing for now.
You can now choose and contact an ISP (Internet Service Provider) to order your pure fibre FTTP Internet service. This normally takes between 20 and 30 days before an Openreach technician can come out to install the new fibre cable to your premises. See FttpInstallation.html for details of how to order and the installation process. The "Service providers" link on the Openreach checker page can also be used to find ISP's.
